Fix for fresh air flap

Peter,
On my 1989 200tqw "S6'er" I had the same problem. The vacuum hose had
come unattached to the plunger that operates the fresh air/recirc flap.
Here's what I did.
How to fix fresh air flap
- Get on your back and look up at the underside of the pass.
glovebox/footwell area.
- Unscrew the three or so phillips heads that hold a black insulated
cover & convenience light, remove this cover.
- At this point you can see the mechanics of what will need fixing.
Either the Audi tube has come attached from the plunger or something is
broken. Hope for the first.
- Over the years, the black vacuum line that goes to the vacuum plunger
that operates the flap was shrunken and hard, therefore making it almost
next to impossible to reattach.
- Buy some 1/8" silicone blue R/C fuel line - about 3" worth.
- While you're at it, buy some small brass tubing (at the same hobby
shop) that will
*tightly* fit inside the I.D. of the Audi black tubing *AND* fit inside
the silicone.
- Cut a small 1-2" length of the brass tubing and attach the 3" silicone
section to the existing black Audi tubing. I had to actually cut the
Audi tubing about 1/2" to get to a good section of it. This gives you
the "flexibility" and extra length needed to reattach to the plunger.
- Reattach the new silicone tubed end to the plunger and all should be well.
- Take 2-4 pain pills before attempting. Back ache for sure...
- If your plunger or flap arm (that attaches to the plunger) is broken,
your in a different ball game than the one I played.
Good Luck, and let us know how it went. Hope this helps.
