Depreciation (was A4 in the paper)

That's one BIG HONKING depreciation.

Just about a month ago, I traded in my '97 A4Q 2.8L stick with 35K miles on
my new '00 S4. (It was from the first of the '97 shipments, an early
'97.) I got a $21.5K trade-in at the dealer; usually private sales can do
about $2K better than a dealer trade-in. And my car was right around the
$30K mark new.

So I lost between $6K (direct) and $8.5K (trade) in three years, and this
guy lost $10K in one year! Wow!
