Ian -

It's almost certainly the window switch.  You can pop the switch assy
out of the door - pry a bit with a screwdriver and voila ...

Carefully exchange the driver's window switch with the switch for one
of the back windows (one that's right there in the driver's door assembly).

I think everyone on the list that's had a high mileage 5l/100/200 has
been in the 'open window' situation  :-/


The window switch's come out of the plastic plate that holds them into
the driver's door with a little fiddling with a knife blade.  There are
real tiny protrusions that act as catch's to hold them in place.
