RE: flushing oil
Jim
The comma stuff is still available and this is what I was thinking of using,
I didn't change the oil when I did the lifters mainly because it was pretty
clean still. Cock up here???? It's due in about 1500 miles (1 month) so I
was going to do the flush then, I too have used the wynn's stuff before the
last oil change, although it's difficult to tell if it did any good so I was
thinking of something a little more aggressive shall we say.

You just changed your oil when you did your lifters anyway didn't you.
Didn't you?
:-)
When I drove Rover V8's I used a flushing oil once every two oil changes. I
used a driveable flushing oil made by Comma, available back then from motor
factors - don't know if its still available.
The method was buy a couple of filters and 5 litres of flushing oil. Drain
oil, fit new filter and then fill with flushing oil. Use the car for a
maximum of 50 miles and then drain the oil, fit the other new filter and
fill with normal oil.
Really used to shift all the gunge, the V8 is a low pressure, high flow
engine so can suffer from sludge build up. Normal oil pressure was 28psi but
if you were sneaky (I am) you fitted a pressure relief spring from a MG
which would boost the pressure to around 50psi.
I can't use the drive and flush method in the Ur-q 'cos the oil would cook
in the turbo but I believe that Phil uses some sort of engine flush (Wynns
or something) for a few minutes before draining the oil. My Ur-q has been
run on either Mobil 1 or Quantum Gold since I got it and had no sludge when
I stripped the engine.
