Re: '86 4KCSQ - two quick questions

Those are the hoses that I ended up doing too, it *is* a PITA. Here is what
I did:
-Remove the battery - to give yourself more room
-Disconnect the coil from the side of battery tray and set aside - same
reason
-Remove the glove compartment
-Remove the heater motor cover (black plastic)
-Unscrew the bolts holding the AC evaporator.
-Move the AC evaporator out of the way by pushing down from the outside or
pulling down from the inside, there is adhesive in addition to the bolts
holding it there, so you will have to use some force, but be careful not to
break any lines.
-Now you can loosen the hose clamps in the engine compartment- the easy
part.
-The hose clamps on the heater core are a little trickier, you need to
loosen those thru the hole you made by pushing the AC evaporator down (I
hope you have skinny arms)
If you are just doing the hoses, attach the new ones and reassemble in
reverse order. If you are doing the heater core too (strongly suggested)
you have to continue dismantling your interior:
-Remove the center console (check archives for tips)
-Remove airflow ducts
-The big white plastic thing is what you need to get out (sorry don't know
the proper name)
-Unscrew all screws holding it in place.
-You'll see a large U shaped rod holding it in place, pry that toward you to
release it.
-You should now be able to pull the big white plastic thing out far enough
to remove the heater core.
If you don't have AC you should be able to simply slide the heater core out
w/o pulling apart half the interior.
Good Luck.
Anyone with a better way please speak up.
