RE: 200 TQ Alternator electrical challenges
When the car is running, you should see approximately the same voltage at
the battery that you do at the jump start post. The crimp you're looking
for is under the front passenger carpet, up against the firewall. One lead
in from the engine bay, one towards the battery, and a third smaller lead
over to the fuse box. I guess I'd suspect the third, but I've never heard
of a bad splice/crimp that didn't show itself at the battery as well.
Along a similar note, my alternator charges as 13.9 or so. I see 13.5 or so
at the battery. My voltage gauge fluctuate between 14 and 12.x depending on
what the load is. However the climate control head always shows 12.0 on
channel 11(?). Anyone know why that might be, and what other CC related
problems that might cause?
I'm about to install a new battery (the original one has almost given up the
ghost). Would you believe that the local dealer is the cheapest source !?!
About $80 will get me a new battery. And supposedly Audi is superceding the
battery with a better deep cycle battery in the neat future, for the same $$
or cheaper. Again !?!! So I've been holding off until current supply of
the old batteries has been depleted and I can get one of the new ones...
Thanks!

Subject: 200 TQ Alternator electrical challenges
Please someone refresh my memory or direct me
to where the big juice cable that gets corroded/bad
on a '89 200TQ is located. My battery recently was
drained while driving and I suspect my alternator
is bad, -- --however I want to check this cable as
well. Somewhere in the front passenger side
right? Today, with a charged battery in, I show only
12-11.5 volts on the dash guage.
Thanks in advance fellas.

Snow again finally in Denver! Time to put
the 911 to bed and drive the TQ.
