RE: Leaking ATF from 2nd Gear Brake Band?
Is this a round cover on the passengers side of the transmission held in
with a big circlip?
The 2nd gear brake band piston cover is sealed with an O-ring and the heat
of the exhaust hardens the o-ring over time. The piston assemble can be
removed and the O-ring replaced. We usually would replace the piston seals
at the same time since they are rubber and harden also. If the piston seals
have hardened they can affect the shifting, pressure is lost past the seals.
I have done them with the trans in the car on the type 44's but I am unsure
if it can be done on the 80/90 cars.
Take Care

Subject: Leaking ATF from 2nd Gear Brake Band?
My 089 AT is leaking ATF from the cover of the 2nd gear
brake band. I
always thought it was leaking from the gasket but I was
wrong. How exactly
does a brake band work and why is it leaking? Anyone?
Could this leaking
cause a shifting problem from 2nd gear to 3rd, this being a
late shift?
Thanks!
