Re: Stripped bolt removal
Hey Fred,
Just bought some of that stuff you talked about. Different name, but same
stuff. It supposed to kinda reshape the head. Well, I put some on the end
of a allen wrench and stuck it up in there and let it set for an hour or so.
Came back and it did feel like it was torquing and gripping, but like I
said, I think this bolt was tightened too much and as soon as I start
applying some real pressure, it stripped itself again!!!!
Shoot. Looks like this stuff will work pretty good for a lot of stuff, but
not here. I found something else .... a set of screw extractors. It fits
on the end of a rotary drill and you drill the end of it into the bolt head,
then remove the drill from the bit. On the end there is a squared off piece
which you can use to grip with a socket (pontentially) or a pair of plyers
or something. Anything you want I guess. I am going to try the liquid
metal stuff again, but if it doesn't work, I'm gonna try one of these screw
removal things. That is _IF_ I can find my tilting drill. If not it's a no
go as no normal drill is gonna fit in that tight space.
If anyone else has any ideas on how to get this stripped bolt out of there
(upper glovebox bolt with glovebox open) on my 89 200TQ....Id appreciate any
input. Unfortunately it looks like I'm gonna be waiting till Monday and
have someone drill it out for me. My big drill won't even fit in there.
Later,
Dan
89 200TQ
:( Frusturated doesn't describe it.
P.S. If anyone has any info on how to get out the lower driver's side
(carpeted) kick panel out with that damn hood release thing in the way, I'd
appreciate any advice there as well. I have it loose so I can at least run
wires back there but think it might be easier to remove this to get the
lower drivers side of the dash out (which I know is a PITA!).
I think I'm gonna buy a Ford next time!
