Re: ABS Weirdness
I'll add a bit to this. On my 87 5kq the ABS light came on and stayed
on. A gradual affair...on, off, on, off, on. The diffs were not
locked. I reset the wheel sensors. No change. I pressure bled the
brakes again (I had only done this about six months previously) doing
the usual MC, RR, LR, RF, LF. No change. Checked the control unit for
the ABS system (just to see if there was any corrosion in the
connectors), nada. There are a coupla relays in the system, and lucky
for me, I found a parts car at the 'recycler' with the modulator still
intact, and pulled the relays. Swapped the 'recycled' relay for the
return pump in my modulator and...no more ABS dash light on all de
time! ABS now functioning. I have a fairly new bomb and get over 30
pumps from it after shut down (I don't go past 30 pumps because it is
a waste of time:) The bomb only supplies pressure to the brake servo,
and I don't think it has anything to do with the ABS system. If I'm
wrong, somebody will point it out...no doubt:) This may not be your
problem, but hopefully will give some insight.
Cheers,
Geo
