RE: Headlight protection
Stonegard for lights seems to be a good product. I have installed it on a
1994 S4 for a friend. It went on easily and fit well. Time will tell if it
will save the lens but they do offer (for additional cost) a replacement
warranty that will pay up to $750, I think, if your light gets broken.

It is a 3M film a couple of mm thick. It did not seem to change the light
pattern at all.
Take care

Subject: Headlight protection
The mechanic to whom I took my new '99 A6 Quattro for it's
first (no way I wait till 7500 for
the dealer to do it) oil and filter change remarked how
large and 'potentially breakable' the A6
headlights are. Has anyone tried any sort of clear
protective tape or applique plastic on their
headlights? and if so, what did you use and from whom did
you obtain it ?
Thanks,
