Re: Monkey Lad business practices? (Re: Turbo/wastegate questions - K24, WG Spr

In a message dated 11/29/1999 "The PC Handyman" <pchandyman@intrex.net>
(among others) rants:

<< Likewise... _If_ Benjamin Swann was quoted $400, me $375, and Gary Lewis
$210, I am a pretty aggravated cheapskate... I would be really annoyed to pay
$400 for it and then find out that some other people got it for $210!
WTF!? Isn't that one of the things that happens to us at the monkeylad garage
when the car breaks down? >>

This thread is getting completely out of hand IMO. I hope that my reply is
not the only one of it's kind, that I hope to read as I finish up catching up
on two more digests, but feel the need to say something now regardless.

We're talking about Scott Mockry, who has remained pretty much silent thus
far for good reason I think. This is the same person who has provided so many
of us on this list with so much help over the years *for free*, offers his
tremendous wealth of information and troubleshooting advice on his web page
*for free,* and having met and spent a little time with Scott at MH the past
two years, I also know him to be a genuinely nice guy! All this in addition
to his wealth of knowledge in things Audi and tuning related.

AFAIK, Scott didn't intend to offer a "retail" tuning service like TAP, IA,
etc. While it is possible that in recent times his business plan may have
changed some (keep in mind he is trying to make a go of this tuning business
as a real business), I detect he still doesn't have time to go "retail" per
say.

This all said, even if the mods he offers for 10v turbo owners is
say...$400.00 or so. It is still vastly less than IA or TAP will charge you
and may well be a more refined mod as I believe he is doing ongoing
development work on all his tuning mods.

It is my opinion that bashing Scott's business practices and likening his to
"Monkey Lad business practices" is truly wrong. I have no affiliation with
Scott or his products, I only felt the need to say something as I believe
someone I consider a friend here on this list is being bashed wrongly. Let's
not abuse yet another brilliant and helpful mind away from this
list...please.

This thread really needs to end and fast.
