Yes I can concur with what Tony has found out it works a treat, although I had no centering problems.

Hi gang,

I don't think anyone's mentioned this before, but you can turn the 4 spoke 
leather steering wheels from type 44 cars (5000/turbo/quattro) into those 
for type 85 (4ks/4kq/ CGT) by just swapping the black plastic insert.  I 
recently replaced the crumbling leather wheel in my CGT with one from 5000 
in great shape using this trick.  Just get the orientation right, or you'll 
have to do it again (don't ask).  One caveat, the wheel may not be exactly 
centered as it was before.
