4000 Mods - exhuast, struts, FI

Now that I'm able to settle down to two cars as I sold the '86 5KSQT to
fellow list member, I can start to fix up my (wife's) '85 4000 SQ.

It needs exhaust replacement from the CAT on Back, Front Struts, and fuel
injectors. This is a quick query regarding alternatives.

I want to keep the cost down, but is there is good flow exhaust system
available for not much more than I could get an OEM replacement. I have
actually had some prices near $300 but can go closer to $500 for a decent
exhaust, especially since '89 2.3 l engine probably deserves better
breathing. BTW I aquired MIG welder as proceeds from 5000 so I can use for
any installs that require welding or modification.

Same for struts, my wife would be happy with OEM and I don't want to harsh a
ride, but what else is available without going hog wild on price.

I would guess fuel injectors should be OEM but if any good source price
wise, Ill be replacing all 5. Scuba Tank cleaning doesn't last forever ;')
BTW on this, car starts rough cold, injector cleaning helped for awhile. I
was going to clean/replace the warmup pressure regulator, except I didn't
see one mounted on the side of the engine block. I've had this car for over
7 years and I'm just noticing. Is there a warmup regulator that can be
serviced or repaired - previous VW's I had with this problem I resolved by
cleaning/ replacing warmup regulator. Anything other than injectors and
fuel filter to replace/repair? Fuel pump makes some buzz noise, but doesn't
sound like it's on it's last leg.

TIA for all the great advice I get from the list.
