Spring/shock setup for '84 4KQ

So I'm looking ahead to next year when I plan on AutoXing the quattro. In a few
years I hope to start rallying (production class obviously).

 Anyone have advice on makes/models/prices of springs and shocks that will give
me good track/rally performance without killing the ride or snow performance?
The car will still be a daily driver so I don't want to go too far.  And forget
about coil-overs, I don't have the cash (unless someone on the list has a set
that they're willing to part with for cheap).
