ATF + Filter Change, and ATF Level

I finally got around to changing the ATF, gaskets, and filter. Went
fairly smoothly, until I filled the trans back up. I checked the book, 3.2L
of fresh ATF is called for. I filled with 3 fresh bottles of Mobil1 ATF. I
started the car up checked for leaks while it was running and stationary,
nothing. I went for a short drive and checked the level, too much ATF. I
don't have a way to suck the fluid out so I dropped the pan a bit letting
the ATF leak out. Bolted everything back up and bingo. Level is right on
the mark, although I decided to let the temp of the engine get a bit higher
and the level seems to high again. Very slightly over the max dot, should I
drain a bit or let it be?
On a happier note shifting is better and not late from 2nd to 3rd.
Although kickdown from 3rd to 2nd still has some slippage. I assume one of
the clutches is going south, or the brake band isn't adjusted properly. I
hope that it might go away after the fresh ATF gets time to flush around the
whole trans.

Thanks!
