Re: My Tire Dilemma

In a message dated 99-12-10 15:07:30 EST, you write:

<< I wanna know, how much of what I like about these is due to the
outrageous (for my car) width and how much to the construction, design,
price, etc. or is it just what all tires with a low enough profile ride
 like?

Cause I need at least a pair of tires right now and I am going bonkers.
50 series 195's or 205's will "fit", but looking at 195's on the other
coupe, they just seem so narrow I get vertigo...

Whoa there - 195's can look very wide. You should check out my coupe, they
look like steamrollers - sidewalls have a LOT to do with it. The SP 8000's
look really wide. I paid 70$ a piece for them, and they've been great tires
so far - minimal wear for the type of driving. My track tires, meaty 205's,
look absolutly huge - way too wide for the car. Again, low profile helps.
My guess is that the 195's on your other car are 60's, probably all seasons.
They look weak.

I'd grab a set of 205-50-15 SP 8000's - and run with them for a while. Grip
is probably comparable to the Pilots, although wear may be up and ride may be
down.
Wanna save more money? Grab a set of P700Z's by pirelli - cheap as dirt,
high levels of grip (don't last long, though.)
Later!
