91 90q value?(correction, was CQ))

Sorry about that. I looked at the car and it is a model 90 4dr 20v 5
spd.(Correcting my post of an hour ago, in which I called this car a CQ))I
need an opinion on the value of a 91 Model 90 4dr (5spd, 20v) Red, leather,
one owner, full records, 187k. Never wrecked. Oil changed every 2,000 miles.

Well maintained by one garage.

NOTE:Normal mileage is 112k and 187k is HIGH.

What should I look for specifically, based on your actual ownership of this
car?

WHAT'S HAPPENED SO FAR: I looked at the car tonight, drove it briefly (40
miles) in the dark, with the owner. Interior was flawless black leather.
The engine started OK but idled unevenly when cold. Slow driving cold
around town was not smooth.....continuous surging and uneven power but not
bucking. Same condition continued throughout warmup and didn't go away
when warm. Listening to the exhaust revealed an uneven sound pattern and
when I held a dollar bill to the tailpipe, it got sucked in and blown back
out at the speed of a machine gun.....like holding a card against the
spinning spokes of a bike wheel. I think it had a bad exhaust valve or
two, or three or 4 (it's a 20 valve).

Owner has had a new timing belt and water pump and alternator in the last
year, and a brake job.

Owner sez car was serviced by trained Audi mechanic in last month....$400
tune up and oil service. It still doesn't run right and it is up for sale.
This tells me the mechanic found something that is very expensive to fix,
and the owner decided to move it to another home for that phase of its life.

So, I walked away and said to call me on Monday if it wasn't sold, and I'd
have my own mechanic survey it at 8 AM.

I'm very interested in any comments or insights or BTDT's or even wild
guesses at what this vehicle is worth. KBB retail is about $7k and fair
condition trade-in is $2,795 with 112k miles, and this one is at 187k
miles. Take off $1,000 for 75k overmileage and you end up at $1,795. If it
were _good_ condition, without the engine flaw, final adjusted price would
be $2,595. But I think this car has an expensive engine flaw....needs a
valve job.

So it boils down to....what will a valve job cost on a 1991 20valve? And
what would you offer for this car if you wanted it? I need to replace my
86 4kq, which was totalled about 3 months ago.
