TT vs Focus for US Car of the Year

In yesterday's San Jose Mercury News Matt Nauman (auto reporter/editor?)
wrote in his statements that he was going to vote for the Ford Focus as car
of the year, but that he did it reluctantly. He stated that he was planning
to vote for the Audi TT, but decided that the fact that Audi had to recall
the car due admittedly due to safety issues at over twice the legal speed
limit for most places in which it is used. This is such a bogus argument
IMO, was Mercedes faulted for recalling their SUV to make the automatic
safety control standard? This was a safety issue that was more real to
drivers in the US than the high speed handling characteristics of the TT ...

The thing that bothers me is that if he decided to vote for the Focus, that
would be fine, but to bad mouth the TT in doing so was not ...

I looked on the rag's website (http://www.mercurycenter.com/) to see if I
could give a url that others could refer to, but there was no reference to
the article I saw there. There was an article describing why he thought the
new Honda sports car (s2000?) had no soul, which was also printed in the
Friday edition ...
