As I recall, the Bentley called for locking compound on the front axle
splines of my '86 5ktq. The mechanics at the local dealership said they used
Loctite red (Stud & Bearing Lock - darn close to permanent). I haven't had
to remove the axles on my other Audis, so I can't say if it is still
required.
