RE: Seat back release cable repair Coupe Q 85

Glenn

It took me overall a couple of hours from start to finish, that includes taking the seat out and putting it back in greasing everything up so slides nice and smooth. My seats too are not heated, it's not difficult to do just a fiddle getting the new cable on the release lever. The seat itself comes apartas follows:

1.	with the seat out of the car and on the work bench tip up the backrest (like you would to let people in the back) and look down at the very bottom of the back rest you should be able to see some metal locking tabs bent over.

2.	unbend the locking tabs and carefully pull the seat cloth over them, now you can see up the back of the seat.

3.	Now remove the mechanism to raise and lower the pitch of the backrest, and pull the side bolster cloth out as well, and also pull off the release lever and it's guide.

Now you should be able to gently pull up the backrest's cloth far enough to gain better access to the metal lever in the seat that the cable goes onto. This is where the fun part starts, if you have the new cable you will see that it has to go into a hole at 90 degrees to it and be pushed through and then pulled down to locate it, I found the best way was to bend the cable almost back on itself and go fishing, maybe a long nosed pair of needle pliers would help (I haven't got any).

Once this end is on then you need to run it down to the catch on the bottom of the seat. You can get an idea of how it should run by looking at the good cable. Please note that the cables are a different length for each catch, the one that was broken on my car was the longest one (going to the side nearest the tranny tunnel) part no is:

191 881 595 for the longest

191 881 596A for the shortest.

Re assembly is simple, just carefully pull down the trim and re install over the metal tabs and bend them back into place so they won't snag on anything, I also greased the recline mechanism as well.

Hope this helps and have fun, like I said in my post you need a few pairs of hands but It's nice to have the seat working properly again.
