It might actually be as simple as retrofitting the bulb socket for a dual
filament bulb ... but I don't know that for sure. I recently repaired my
always on rear fog on the V8 ... which was simply an 1173^H^H^H^H^H^H P21/5
(same difference folks ;-) bulb that was installed 180 degrees out from
proper orientation. There are other precedents where the wiring loom has
support for the multi-filament bulb, but the socket connects to only one.
On the V8 the rear fog is on the left end of the trunklid light bar in the
same position as the taillamp.
For more supporting evidence that the loom is set up to support the rear
fog, when I installed the blacked out taillights on the ur-q and plugged in
that H3 bulb into its socket I found a place to which I could attach the
filament lead readily available. I still need to track down where that wire
goes so that I can hook it to my fog light switch, but hopefully it will be
close ...
