E probably a quattro
E = 2.2L 5 Cylinder Turbo (200 Models)
8 Driver & Passenger Air Bag
8C model 90
7 check digit
5 is where the year is supposed to be
A Ingolstadt
and the rest is the serial number

Those E's seem to give funny results.  And that year position makes me
worry about the integrity of any of the other numbers.

But that's what I got from my VIN decoder, which is info I stole from
some other web site somewhere.
