Re: gaugepage WC

Steve-
Interesting thoughts on REO trouble. However, my (admittedly naive) belief here
is that it would be *very* difficult to establish jurisdiction in most cases. If
(1)there is no visible evidence in the photo of a tangible location (say, a sign
"You are now entering Iowa- Drive Safely") and(2) it is true that there are
*some* places on earth where there is no legal maximum speed (Bonneville, where
Dave ran the 928 comes to mind)- then how, exactly, is showing a high number on
the clock intrinsically illegal. All the picture shows is that some Audi V8
somewhere once did 150 mph. Heck, I can raise the Coupe off the pavement and
tach it to the end of the speedo and beyond, then snap a picture- I didn't break
any speed laws then, did I? (although, given the chance involved in jacking up
the car, this is probably more idiotic than actually driving 120+...)
Incidentally, the Ferrari in Paris case: Are you referring to the late '60s
underground classic film "Rendezvous" or some modern emulation of same? If the
former, I don't think this was prosecuted. Heck, I don't even know two people
who agree on what kind of car this was- I think, after careful consideration,
that it was a 300SL while a friend argues, oddly, for a Facel HK500, and the
popular consensus is 275GTB. If there has been someone else who went flat-out
through Paris since, I can see how they might get prosecuted. That is minutes
worth of concrete evidence, vs. one shot of a speedometer. Has anyone ever
attempted prosecution of a car magazine? I can think of dozens of articles
featuring these types of photos...
Regards,
Rob
