T'would be small 'taters (and much safer) for someone to 
falsify the gauge readings with some simple electronics on the 
later cars...

The idea that one could be prosecuted solely on the evidence of 
one of these photos is laughable. How hard do you suppose it 
would be to cast reasonable doubt on the speedo's accuracy? 
Besides how do they prove who was driving? Exactly which car?
