Chamfered pads

Listers

A while back someone on the 200 20v list had just gotten some new KVR pads
for his UFOs. He wondered why the two inner corners were heavily chamfered
or cut back. I may shed some light on that.

I just installed new UFO pads on my 200 20v. I had sent some old UFO pads
to Larry Narcus at Carbo-tech in FL to be relined with his F compound. He
had made me some of his "F" compound super street pads for my 5ktq. They
stopped great, were dead quiet and easy on dust. I had also used some of
his "Mean Green" pads on my Merkur with Cosworth Sierra front 4 pots
grafted on. I never had a pad from him I didn't like.

So I'm installing the "F" pads on my UFOs and it is a bitch to get the
rotors back on after installing the outer pad. I had to work the rotor
back and forth and by the time I got it on I could see that if the inner
corners had been chamfered the rotors would have gone on without a hitch.
So I bet that is why some pads come like that.

So now I've driven the F's to bed them in. I'll report back on how they
work. Maybe I'll take the old pads and send them out in the spring back to
Carbo-tech. Get something for the track.
