Need Expert 5KCSTQ Advice Bigtime!
Hey Guys -- Phil in UK, Dan, Someone...
Most of you are experts on the Turbo Quattro--and all of you
know more than I.
I really need you help here. I have a serious issue with
the car, and the Audi Dealer who has worked on/maintained the car successfully
for the last 2 years is completely baffled.
Before I begin, let me just say that I maintain this car
religiously and I'm not exaggerating.. I've spent well over $10K to maintain and
upgrade the car--and it is in beautiful shape..
OK. It all started over the summer when I bought a new
Landcruiser and started driving the care less and less-- the motive here was to
preserve the cars as much as possible. It was never driven less than 3
days a week, however.
The car always had a 'hard-start; issue followed by a puff of
blue smoke -- which I realized was the injectors. But slowly over the last
2-3 months the starting problem got worse. I took it into the dealer and
it was worked on by a guy who owns 2 5KTQs. He replaced some type of
ignition switch--along with a host of other items to make the car run/idle
better-- fuel filter, O2 sensor, etc.
I took the car home and it was worse. It even stalled a few
times until warm.
I immediately returned to the dealer and dropped it off.
He then replaced the injectors. He also 'mentioned' the fuel pump was loud
and it may have something to do with it. Anyway, I picked the car up and
when the valet brought it out -I turned the car off and tried to start it to see
if the problem was fixed. The car didn't start for 15 mins.
I decided to take it hone and drive it daily to see if the
situation improved -- there were 2 additional problems now: (1) erratic
idle, (2) power loss at > 3/4 throttle. The boost was fine -- 1.4
bar, but the car really struggles at 4K rpm and you can feel it
hesitate.
I wrote the List and was told it might be a vacuum leak and to
do 'the test' with the oil dipstick. The car ran a little worse with
dipstick pulled, but didn't stall. I took it back to the dealer after a
week of heavy driving -- and the situation never improved. The car left me
stranded 3 times-- it just wouldn't start. They had to replace the battery when
I returned.
2 days after I brought it back, the guy called and was
baffled. He said that the car's 'setting's were complete;y out of whack
since he had made adjustments last time. He doesn't know what the problem
is -- and can't figure it out.
I have spent $1200 on this one problem now-- and the problem
is worse than before. I told home that I take it to the Audi dealer for
'expert' service: they are supposed to know these cars -- and I have always had
good service before this guy started working on the car.
Last we spoke, he said he wanted to take it overnight and
drives it for awhile to see if he could figure this out. I said yes.
Bottom line: I want these guys to fix the problem after all this money and
time spent.
Any ideas on what the problem is? Anyone know of a good
Audi specialty shop that can figure this out?
TIA -- very much..
