URQ 4-5k RPM hiccup

Under full throttle my URQ pulls well until about 4500-5000 RPM when it gives 
a pronounced "buck" or "hiccup" for lack of a more descriptive term. It will 
then continue up the tach to redline, pulling strong the rest of the way. Any 
ideas or BTDT? The car also starts hard when cold.
Are there different final drive ring & pinion gear ratios available for these 
cars? First gear in this car seems very low. As with most turbo cars, it has 
little low end torque, but by the time the boost comes on you need to shift 
(unless your going to redline) and you still haven't moved much. Just doesn't 
feel as if everything is the way it should be.
