Crankshaft Group - Removing and Installing the Flywheel
- Always use new bolts and observe the torque recommendations.
- Use a thread locking fluid on the mating surfaces (not the threads).
- There are no marks aligning the flywheel to the crankshaft. As incredible as it might seem during casual observation, it simply fits in only one orientation. The bolt holes are not quite as evenly spread as one might believe.
- Several techniques have been documented, most of which simply do not work. The only reliably successful technique requires collapsing the bearing cage in on itself with a small cold chisel. As always, tool choice, quality and expertise are essential.
