Crankshaft Group - Flywheel Timing Pins
The dwell angle pins on the rear of the flywheel
- The two pins on the clutch face of the flywheel are for measuring dwell angle. This requires special equipment and is today regarded as superfluous. If the flywheel is rebalanced, these pins can, if desired, be omitted with no ill effects.
The ignition (TDC) timing pin on the front of the flywheel
The ignition (TDC) timing pin viewed through the starter motor aperture
- The ignition timing pin on the engine side of the flywheel is CRITICAL for engine operation. A damaged pin should always be replaced before the engine is reassembled. The metal composition is such that a broken pin may have to be removed by a well-equipped machine shop, possibly even using spark erosion.
- Pin height is 11.8mm +/- 0.1 mm.
