Renewing the camshaft oil seal - Audi MB/1B/MC-2 engines
- Removing the camshaft oil seal
- Remove the radiator grill
- Remove the auxiliary radiator
- Slacken off the hydraulic pump adjustment and detach the belt from the pulley
- Remove centre section of lock carrier on cowl panel
- Remove upper toothed belt guard (cambelt cover)
- Set #1 cylinder to TDC
- Put large drip tray under front of engine to catch coolant
- Slacken off water pump and detach toothed belt
- Pack space below camshaft sprocket with rags
- Remove camshaft sprocket using VAG 3036
- Remove camshaft Woodruff key
- Screw camshaft sprocket bolt with washer as far as possible into camshaft
- Screw inner part of oil seal extractor out two turns (approx 3 mm) and lock with knurled screw
- Oil threaded head of extractor and screw it as far as possible into seal, pressing firmly at the same time
- Slacken off knurled screw and rotate the inner part against the camshaft until the seal is pulled out
- Clamp extractor in a vice and pull the seal off with pliers
- Installing the new camshaft oil seal
- Lightly oil sealing lips and outer edge of seal
- Press seal in to first step using fitting sleeve and thrust sleeve 10-203
- Do not press the seal past the first step or the oil feed will be blocked
