Removing and installing camshaft - Audi MB/1B/MC-2 engines
- Set crankshaft to #1 TDC using the 0 mark in the bell housing window
- Removing camshaft
- Remove radiator grill
- Remove auxiliary radiator
- Slacken hydraulic pump adjustment and detach belt
- Remove centre part of lock carrier on cowl panel
- Remove upper toothed belt guard (cambelt cover)
- Remove cylinder head cover (cambelt cover)
- Put large drip tray under front of engine to catch coolant
- Slacken off water pump and remove toothed belt
- Pack space below camshaft sprocket with rags
- Remove camshaft sprocket using VAG 3036
- Remove camshaft Woodruff key
- Slacken off caps 1 to 4 in a diagonal sequence
- Remove the distributor
- Installing camshaft
- Ensure distributor is removed
- Ensure crankshaft is at TDC (see above)
- Cam lobes for #1 cylinder must point equally upwards
- Before tightening the cam caps, check orientation
- Tighten cam caps gradually in a diagonal pattern to 20Nm
- Tightem cam sprocket to 80Nm
