Checking the Cold Start Valve
The cold start valve is on the inner side of the inlet manifold below the bracket that holds the outer sheath of the accelerator cable. It has a blue two-pin electrical connector and a fuel line attached to it. In many cases it is easier to detach the accelerator cable bracket (2 x 10mm heads, 1 x 13mm) from the top of the inlet manifold to obtain access. The cold start valve is held in place by two 5mm Allen screws - a special tool may be useful.
Grounding the high tension lead
- Engine must be cold - below 30°C
- Remove the high tension feed to the distributor and ground it to chassis
- Pull the connectors off the auxiliary air valve and the control pressure regulator (a.k.a. the warm-up regulator)
- Pull the (blue) connector off the cold start valve
- Check the pins within the female connector for correct position and function
- Check the voltage while operating the starter - minimum 11.5V
