[200q20v] jitters

Both.

I just noticed that, at very slight throttle, revs can sometimes
drastically vary; during the pulsing/surging(which happens for several
seconds or longer, and has a cycle of probably 2-3 surges/sec) the tach
needle visibly wobbles.

I do also have significant drivetrain play, which I've mentioned to the
list before with no responses.  I can, with the car jacked up on one
wheel, rotate the wheel something between 1/4 to 1/8th turn before I hear
various clunks along the drivetrain and things lock up.

I can't possibly believe this is normal in audis or any other cars.  I've
been considering trying to find a shop that specializes in drivetrain
repair to go over the entire system from the clutch back.
