Good idea!  I used a trace of liquid soap when
I last did mine and that worked fine too.
(pulled the plug w/ pliers, rubbed a little soap
on, reinserted ~1/2 way, held the back of the
grille in place with one hand, pushed the plug
home with a wide flat tool: ~6" mini pry bar).

A little saliva applied as lubricant followed by
a very firm push against the plug with a smooth,
flat tool can usually get it done.
