Direction of CV ball cage?

Does anyone know if it makes any difference which way the
Cv ball cage goes into the joint?  One side of the cage
has a chamfered edge, which suggests that there is a proper
way, but I couldn't find anything in Bentley about it.

I vaaaaagely recall from the '70s that my VW van manual
said which way it went, but that's been gone for years.
