Fight or switch - Superceeding AoA oil filter

When I bought a case of oil filters last week I couldn't get the P/N I'd always bought from dealers, 034 115 561A. It is superceded by 06A 115 561B which is made for a VW product. Does anyone know if the original filter is preferable for any reason and if it is still manufactured and available from other suppliers?
I searched the archive and couldn't find a complete answer, although the original (034...) is (was?) equivalent to Mahle OC154/264 and Mann W719/30.
I prefer to use what someone on this list knows is best and why.
