Well I finally went to pull the ignition switch. Only to find a tamper
resistant Torx fastener.
I found the size in the Bentley. It is a #30. Is it supposed to be
tamper resistant?
What a PITA.
It should be even more fun when I goto pull the assembly out of the dash
since the key is still stuck in the lock cylinder and probably
will not pull through the dash.

Brett,
Buy a couple of AZ sets, several years ago they were only $50. As I said
before, they are most probably stock Jurid pads. But you should be asking
for the full FMSI number, MKD 467. These pads were never made in the D 467
material, nonmetalic organic.

I need track application pads. "Street" and "autocross" won't cut it-
neither will any of the stock pad compounds; they just don't hold up to
the heat.

Brett: I put all these photos, numbers and ID markings for the 200 20V
here:

You won't "toast" OEM pads at Tremblant unless your brakes AREN'T working
properly......dragging, are unducted and beaten on.

My plea resulted in a number of replies, and I'd like to thank
(hopefully in good jest!) all those who did:
-Paul Royal for making the rounds with his connections
-SuffD for being "most enterprising" for offering up a set of, um,
"used" pads for the bounty ;-)
-Mark Rosenkrantz for winning "most creative solution" (but in all
honesty, I was having similar ideas :-)
-Peter Schulz for listening to me whine
-Louis_Alain_Richard Wins_The_Best_Research_Effort_Award ;-)
-Name Omitted (cousin of Toprotect DaInnocent) wins the "made me
giggle the most" when he asked me if I thought 200q20v's would be
competitive in SCCA racing. I don't think so, but I'd pay to watch! ;-)
-Tom @ Hawk for doing research on the 'inside' to see if there was
anything they could do, even going so far as to look up some big
names in Audi tuning to be helpful (knew 'em, of course- but he
really went out of his way, and I was impressed- especially compared
to the attitude of the Carbotech guys.)
Last but not least...Nathan Engelbert, for telling me Porterfield
makes pads for V8q's and hence 200q20vs, in pretty much all their
compounds. Ding, we have a winner- especially since the part number
is similar to the FMSISISFMSWTF number, Porterfield drop-ships, etc
etc. A set of R4's are on the way, and some stock pads for the ride
up and back (and backup in case the R4's don't cut the cheese.)
Anyway, I will report back with experiences with the R4's. If anyone
is interested in getting Hawk compounds on UFO plates, drop me a
note- Tom said he'd ask around on the sales side to see if they'd do
it. If you can, include which compound(s) you'd be interested in.
Again, thanks to all who responded!
Brett

I recently had an experience of Fuel pump cutout which has never happened
to me in a 20V. It took me a moment to recognize it. It was Boost pressure
specific, not RPM, gear or road speed.
It happened at 1.3 bar (indicated) in almost all gears. No codes and car has
since returned to normal.
Diagnosis or BTDT?

Mike:
How old is the FP?
check the FP relay and check the voltage at the FP.
Relay may be dying, or possibly the FP

Mike,
That's an excellent description of what my avant did on my prepurchase
test drive.
Took it home (of course!), hit 4 plugs with contact cleaner:
- MAF
- TPS
- WGFV
- ign. coil
The problem has never resurfaced. Given the hard (head through window)
feel of
the cutout and the consistent 1.3 bar wall, I figured the ECU was upset
about one
of the first two.

Was the A/C engaged? Did you have the radio on? Did you hear a "pop" from
the radio?

Sounds like limp home mode to me. Once you hit over boost in any gear, you
will see those symptoms until the ignition is cycled. Also could be a MAF
sensor I believe. I agree with cleaning the connectors.
