stuck seat belt

The belt is integrated in the seat, so right now it is folded down, belt is
rolled inside the seat. When you lift the seat up, the belt just extends
until the seat is up in position. Now, I can lift the seat maybe 14-16
inches and the belt is blocking there. Even if I pull up hard, the belt
won't let go.

Any ideas?

Ok, so the rear seat is folded down and you want to return it to upright
position. I still don't know anything about the typ44 avant folding seat
specifically, but can you get to the reel of the offending seatbelt (must be
one of the outboard/shoulder belts right?) and try to feed in a little to
get out a little, slowly? I have an 88 Golf with folding seat where the
shoulder reels are fixed in place, so I don't see how they could hold down
the seatback; and an 05 A4 avant where the shoulder belts are integrated
into the folding part of the seat, so I don't think that could hold down the
seatback either. Where are the reels located on your avant?
