hard start issue

Yea, but I bought it in 1998 for $270 and Silver for $4.80, may sell some
this spring to get the S6. They told me than that it was a bad idea.
Looked at it today around $1,428 and 26.40. Blind luck was good.

Pete

PS, if I had bought a Honda instead of the Avant 11 years ago, and invested
the money I spent on Audi parts in Junk Silver and Gold coins, I could
have a brand new S6. But probably would have died from boredom!

S6 V8 I lust for some day soon, after I hit lotto though, or sell the
house and buy a small log cabin with large barn and invest my life's savings in

Naw! Mines got 238k on it. Drives me nuts at times, however driving a
Honda would drive me nuts all the time.

Next one (when I can afford it) will be a 2002-2003 S6.
Fuel pump ( I have two Avant's and been in there many times) is pretty
strait forward , buy the tool!

Just make sure you look closely at how the sending unit wire and float go
back in. Long story short, last time I was in there I put it in the wrong
place, when the gauge got to 1/4, float got hung up on the fuel line and I
ran out of gas. I have not done the conversion to the new style pump
(found a stock one about 6 years ago. Should take 1-1 1/2 hours with at an easy
pace.

Good Luck
Pete

let's hope it's the FPR.

if it's the check valve - i have to remove that whole tank sending unit
anyway, right?

No, the pump is in the bottom of the tank, just allot easier if your not
up to your wrist in cold gas. Remember do disconnect the battery first.

if the tank is near full - i take it you need to do it outside so you
don't blow up your garage (and yourself)? ;-)

i suppose it's still a good idea to do it outside even with an empty tank.
good thing i live in cali ;-)

Good luck finding a direct fit pump, as far as I know the style has
changed. If you can get just the check valve it is pretty easy. (make sure tank
is near empty) Had to do my Avant outdoors with a full tank and a
-10 January day. The correct tool to twist lock the pump helps allot!
But is doable with out it.

doing a little more research,

it looks like you can access the fuel pump from trunk? so no need to pull
the

if so, that's a relief! i had to pull the fricken gas tank when i
replaced the
fuel pump on my old Ford Taurus SHO!

i'll let you all know what happens after we pressure test the fuel system
this
weekend.

if it is the pump - is the standard bosch still the best bet? has anybody
tried
a Walbro 255lph? that's a lot of flow - but i figure not a bad idea with
the 034
chip, eh? and it's a fair amount cheaper than the bosch pumps.

thanks,
Robby

question - even if it's the check valve - do you have to remove the fuel
pump to

replace it?

if so, isn't removing the fuel pump a serious pain in the ass? obviously,
 i'd
replace the pump while i'm in there...

weekend and

report back.

Possible fuel pump check valve.
Fuel leaks back to tank and has to be pumped back up.
