So how come no one has mentioned that metering of fuel is not on a BTU basis, but volumetric.  Great until you realize that alcohol has fewer BTU/gallon that gasoline.  Wiki has an equivalent alternative fuels conversion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline_gallon_equivalent)  showing gasoline at 114,000BTU/gal, with Ethanol blends at 111,836 BTU/gal, and MTBE blends just below that number. To get the same power output, it's gonna take some additional fuel (volume that is) to produce the same output, with additional impacts I guess based on all those other factors...
