High pressure hose for brake hydraulics

I just got a nice used and what looks like unmolested high pressure hose
from another enthusiast. I disassembled it to free up all the joints and to
inspect and clean it.

Here's the question. This hose has no central plastic tube which I believe
is a metering orifice of sorts. The one I took off my car has this plastic
tube in between the two sections of hose. Not a big deal, I have all the
parts I need to fix this up. What I am curious about is whether there was a
running model year change? And if so is it better to use the config with or
without the tube.

For those curious this thing looks exactly like a brake parts cleaner nozzle
hose with a piece of aluminum ferrule crimped in the middle of it and holes
cut near on end as a fluid spreader.
