Starting in the 1984 model year (85-E-900329) Audi started fitting
stronger front springs to cars with air conditioning. There are some
earlier cars around with air conditioning and the weaker springs, and
there are also (in the UK) quite a few cars with retro-fitted air
conditioning (fitted prior to initial delivery by Audi dealers) where
the factory springs were not changed out during the retrofit. These
cars are easy to spot when you know exactly what you're looking for -
they're 'nose down' by 2 mm to 4 mm.
