In my New York State (okay, local High School) driver's ed, we were told
NOT to brake hard or AT ALL in a vehicle related (as opposed to right of
way related) emergency situation, such as sudden ice patches, blow-outs,
etc. Don't recall it being emphasized, but since I do recall something
about it, I guess they emphasized it enough. I will have to admit we
never did any in car practice of any emergency situations though,
although I could think of a number of other things I wanted to do in car
practice of instead...... (it was summer time, so all of the "students"
were dressed for hot weather.....)
