NAC Zone Alarm

Sorry to post NAC, but this is important enough to let my fellow q-heads in
on it. Zone Alarm is obviously great if you have DSL or some other "on all
the time" type of connection to keep unwanted connections off your computer.
However, even more important IMHO even for modem users is the bi-directional
protection that the software offers. You simply would not believe how much
application software installed on your system tries to phone home. Zone
Alarm will stop spyware from calling home. Even some of my child's software
tries to report back to the manufacturer without permission.
