He's a Luddite. I got my 73 year old mother a PC for Xmas last year.
"What do I need a computer for?" she said. "So you can  keep in touch
with your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren via email," I
said.  Today, I can't get it away from her. She *was* computer illiterate. 
Now she's on the low end of the learning curve, but thrilled with her 
ability to keep in touch with family and friends.

Some people fear change. Others embrace it. To each her own..
