Consensus on the air-bag light issue?

Well, according to my Audi dealer.......A common cause of the air bag light 
coming on has been the clock spring in the steering wheel for the air bag. As 
a simple fix they suggest shelling out $371.00 for a new one. I've asked 
about just resetting the light, but they say the code stored is sporadic and 
the light would probably come on again in a few days. ?. So, I have left the 
light on and airbag ineffective untill I can cough up some money for a 
spring......subject car: '91 200.....
