The quattro Workshop is looking quite seriously at entering the
auxiliary headlight wiring harness market. We envisage three products:
a) Harness for the MB/RR ur-quattro. Nice and easy, this one - no
Autocheck unit. It will be similar to the BR Motorsports harness
with some technical improvements - the BR harness ships to customers
with 20 amp fuses fitted into fuseholders that are only rated to
15 amps by their manufacturers. Other improvements are planned.
b) Harness for the WR ur-quattro. In this case there's an Autocheck
unit (a voice synthesiser) that wants to see bulbs in all harness
positions. Normal practice to date has been to disable this function
by spoofing the Autocheck - we'd like to find a way to switch current
through the harness's relays but still let the Autocheck unit see
the health of the bulbs. Wonderful things, resistors and diodes.
c) Harness for the Type 44 - pretty well as b) above, but with different
geometry.
Any information available on adapting (rather than simply defeating) the
Autocheck bulb warning facilities?
We see three principle applications:
a) Relieving the load on the stock light switches in older cars.
b) Increasing voltage at the bulb - retaining stock bulbs.
c) Allowing larger (more powerful) bulbs to be used.
