The I5 has been available over here in the Vanagon/Eurovan (we call it
the Microbus or Kombi) for ages. Still being sold in 2.3 and 2.6 format.
Longitudinally mounted, rearward facing unit.

Actually, you get alot of these things with the old Ford 3-litre and
3.4-litre V6 in them. Common conversion when the standard motor dies. I
think they had a website somewhere, but can't find it now. The ad
indicates "1 day conversions" 'cos they've been doing it for so long. :)

There's a company here called Volks Engine Change who offer a 2.7 litre
exchange unit for the 2.3, 2.5 and 2.6 litre 5-cylinder unit. There is
also a 3.2 litre 6-cylinder "Oettinger" waterboxer if you're interested.
Seem to know what they're on about. They'd probably know what all it
takes to get the I5 into a non-I5 Vanagon. :)

Actually, you can get bell housings to put Vanagon gearboxes onto Toyota
engines.
