Some years ago I was lucky enough to be in the UK when the London Design
Museum was running an expo named "Sex and the Motorcar". (Which promptly
elicits comments from US listers along the lines of "And what rock have
*they* been hiding under?").
Anyway, they had a Jensen Interceptor on display, with a spec sheet which
claimed the engine was a V-6. Looked to me more like a big ole' 383
Chrysler (which it was), and I mentioned to the third assistant junior
curator that the engine in the Jensen over there was in fact a V-8, not a
six. He haughtily assured me, an ignorant colonial bumpkin, that it was
indeed a V-6.
"Waaal, son, y'all wanna come ovah hyar and count the spark plugs?"
(Scratch, fart, burp.)
When he got to numbers seven and eight, his expression changed
dramatically, and he ran off to find someone who would authorize having the
spec sheet changed to match the reality.
Neat expo anyway, and I'd go back, even though I did get a counterfeit 5
Pound note from the taxi driver . . .
Best Regards,
