Many will have noticed I haven't been around recently. I've still been
subscribed, but I had 'nomail on' set during the quattro 2000 trip to
Ingolstadt with 50 UK ur-quattros. In fact, we achieved (with European
help) a staggering total of 259 ur-quattros at Ingolstadt. More of this
later ...
Subbies are rife and rampant here in the UK. It's almost impossible to
drive more than thirty miles without seeing one, and I pass one talking
to the Boys in Blue on every third or fourth trip down the M1. They're
everywhere.
I didn't see a single one in Germany. During a break in the trip, I
went to see some friends in Frankfurt and one of the questions I asked
was: "Why no Subarus in Germany?"
Their reply?
"A 30,000km car. Wonderful for a few rally stages but useless for
Hamburg and back once a week - they just wear out in a fraction of
the time a German car takes."
(One actual expression was: "Autobahn untauglich.")
